Today I received a very interesting article on events and the industry. Most people believe that the event industry is all fun and games but it also makes up 263 billion dollars of the U.S. Economy, according to the Convention Industry Council.
This is a lot of money. That tells me that more people are going back to the grassroots way of networking and that even though our society has moved digital it still craves to meet with each other. I was rather impressed about how much money the event industry makes and contributes to our overall U.S. economy.
The meetings industry creates millions of jobs in every city. That is impressive. I am excited to be a part of this great, fast growing industry!

Shriners Silver Garden
Last night we celebrated the unsung heroes of the business community, the CFOs. This group of professionals are rarely thanked and they are the ones who keep all the parts together. It was a great event!
We honored them at the Shriners Silver Garden Event Center in Southfield. This event center is AMAZING! I was blown away by the amount of space there was and how beautiful it was. They have two huge ballrooms and an outdoor garden area. They also have a lobby that holds over 500 people. If you haven't heard about it check them out at www.silvergardenevents.com.

Social Media and Events
Keeping up with this Social Media is a lot of work.
This is the first time I have blogged in a year. I was just reworking my blog a bit with a new focus. This updated blog is going to be a place where I share the secret life of an events director. I have plenty of funny stories on my journey of planning and I thought this would be a fun place to share my thoughts and hopefully someone else can learn from my mistakes!
Oh yeah, back to social media...It is a lot of work. I am trying to keep updated on the latest and greatest. All our events at Crain's are going to have a # tag for twitter now. Today at the Crain's/Detroit Regional Chamber Catalyst event I had to have tweeted a million times. I didn't know I had that many opinions. If you want to check out the event on twitter it is #catalyst11.
Do you remember when this ## (a hash tag) use to just be a number sign. When did that change? I am seriously dating myself here but I am curious if anyone else is feeling overwhelmed by the social media. Today I posted on my facebook, too, for the first time in like a month. I feel so behind!
Someday I am going to get it together!

Details Bouncing Around
Have you ever had so many thoughts and details bouncing around in your head that you don't know where to start? That is how I have been feeling lately. Just one thing after another seems to keep pulling me in more directions than I can keep up with.
Work is stressful as our events season is kicking into full gear and the details to pull off these events are making me crazy. Check out some of our upcoming events at www.crainsdetroit.com/crainsevents
Then there are so many little things going on and needing to get done. Like the simplest of tasks are so draining lately. Taking out the trash or cleaning the house. Why does life have to get so stressful?
One thing I am trying to keep in perspective is that even in this busy time I need to rely on God for strength. And all these tasks are pretty meaningless compared to the grand plan...
Anyway, I hope for rest soon :)
